Okay so I’m doing this. Every two weeks, I write down what I learned. The world ships an update, I read the patch notes. That’s the deal.
Context: I’m a year and a half into my first real job, writing enterprise Java at a big IT-services firm in Hyderabad — change requests and release coordination by day, Hacker News way too late at night. This week HN has been heavy — the community is grieving Aaron Swartz, and I’ve spent hours reading about everything he built. I never knew one person could touch RSS, Reddit, AND Markdown.
Lighter notes: CES just wrapped (4K TVs nobody can afford, a fork that tracks your eating??), and everyone at work is arguing about whether Man United’s title charge under Ferguson matters more than the fact that our staging server fell over twice this week. United are top of the table, India host Australia in the Tests next month, and I have Feelings about both.
TIL: git reflog exists. It saved my life on Tuesday. I deleted a branch with two days of work and my tech lead just calmly typed one command. I want to be that calm someday.
