Two absurd things this fortnight and I refuse to rank them. One: Amazon went on 60 Minutes and announced delivery drones. Packages in 30 minutes by air. Everyone’s arguing whether it’s real or a Cyber Monday PR stunt (it aired the night before Cyber Monday, so you do the math). Two: someone made a cryptocurrency based on the shiba inu meme. It’s called Dogecoin. It was created as a joke and it already has a community mining it. Nothing means anything and I’m having a great time.
Bitcoin, meanwhile, crashed 40% after China restricted banks from touching it. My coworker’s real-estate listings tab is closed. Volatility is a hell of a drug.
Black Friday on-call report: I got paged once, for the alert threshold I fixed in April. Past me saving present me, which is the whole point of this job, maybe.
TIL: time zones will hurt you. A report ran at “midnight,” and that was midnight in four different timezones depending on which server ran it. Everything is UTC now. Everything. My tech lead proverb file grows: “There are two timezones: UTC and mistakes.”
