The wider fortnight: US unemployment claims hit numbers that break chart axes (6.6M in one week, the y-axis rescale is the story); Apple and Google are reportedly days from announcing a joint exposure-notification protocol (two platform rivals shipping a shared privacy-preserving Bluetooth spec in weeks; if the drafts circulating in the standards channels are the real thing, it’s decentralized, rotating identifiers, no location — genuinely good design under maximum pressure); Tiger King completed its conquest of the locked-down attention economy (no notes; the archive simply witnesses); and our own on-call ran its first fully-remote major incident, the runbook held, the incident channel held, and the postmortem’s top finding was human: the IC was also parenting a four-year-old mid-incident. Sustainable on-call now means something new. Rewriting the rotation with household reality as a first-class constraint.
