My prediction, filed for grading: the performance-per-watt numbers from the iPhone lineage suggest the first ARM Macs won’t be “acceptable substitutes” but flatly FASTER than the Intel ones they replace, which will make this the rare migration users request rather than tolerate. TIL: instruction-set translation at Rosetta 2’s level — ahead-of-time binary translation with JIT fallback, x86 memory-ordering emulation via hardware mode in the chip itself. They built the ESCAPE RAMP into the silicon. Migrations succeed on the quality of their compatibility layers, not their destination’s virtues (#130, TSB, forever).
